Who is BEDHEAD for?
BEDHEAD was originally designed from lived experience for people living with ME/CFS, but it is equally suitable for people with Long COVID, fibromyalgia, POTS, chronic pain, autoimmune conditions, neurological conditions, ADHD, and anyone managing fluctuating symptoms, fatigue, or reduced cognitive capacity.
Do I need a diagnosis to use BEDHEAD?
No. BEDHEAD is designed for anyone trying to better understand and manage their health, regardless of whether they have received a formal diagnosis.
How is BEDHEAD different from a diary or planner?
BEDHEAD is specifically designed around pacing, symptom tracking, accessibility, and pattern recognition. Rather than simply recording what happened each day, it helps you identify relationships between activities, symptoms, rest, and wellbeing over time.
Why is BEDHEAD paper-based instead of an app?
Many people with chronic illness experience screen fatigue, cognitive overload, notification fatigue, or simply prefer writing by hand. BEDHEAD is intentionally analogue first, allowing you to reflect without distractions while still providing optional digital resources through the website.
Can I use BEDHEAD alongside other apps or trackers?
Absolutely. BEDHEAD is designed to complement, not replace, digital tools. You can combine it with wearable devices, health apps, or digital calendars, there is space for adding measurements/recordings from these in the journal.
Can I skip pages or sections?
Yes. BEDHEAD is flexible by design. You are encouraged to use only the sections that are helpful to you and adapt the journal to your own needs.
Will it still be useful on bad symptom days?
Yes. The journal was designed with fluctuating capacity in mind. Simple layouts, low writing demands, visual scales, and flexible tracking options make it easier to use even during periods of fatigue or brain fog.
How long does one journal last?
The standard editions are available as both 3 month and 6 month journals, each containing daily pages, weekly reviews, big reviews, and wellbeing activities.
Will there be digital versions?
Yes. Printable PDF versions are planned alongside the printed journal, allowing users to print and organise pages in a way that best suits their needs.
Do you ship internationally?
International shipping is planned. Full shipping information will be available closer to launch.
How was BEDHEAD developed?
BEDHEAD was developed through lived experience, behavioural science, accessibility principles, and user research with people living with chronic health conditions. The design has been informed through surveys, prototype testing, and ongoing patient and public involvement.
Can I get involved or provide feedback?
Yes. We welcome feedback from people with lived experience, carers, clinicians, and researchers. If you have suggestions or would like to participate in future research, please get in touch through our Contact page.
